扬子中学是国家级示范高中、江苏省首批四星级高中，曾获得省“教育工作先进集体”“江苏省文明单位”“江苏省平安校园”“江苏省基础教育课程改革先进集体”，南京市市“师德先进群体”“南京市园林式校园”“南京市书香校园创建校”“南京市中小学心理健康教育特色学校”“南京市中小学体育特色学校”“南京市中学足球特色学校”“南京市中小学优秀志愿者联盟学校”“南京市依法治校示范校”等多项荣誉称号。
学校以五星级高中为建设标准，环境优美，布局合理，设施先进，拥有职业生涯规划中心、心理辅导中心、省奥林匹克竞赛培训中心等；四人间宿舍均有中央空调、盥洗室；食堂菜品丰富，质优价廉。
学校现有177名教师，其中特级教师2人，市区学科带头人近37人，博士2名，硕士68人，“江苏省333高层次培养对象”2名，省市名特优教师占有较大比例。
